Open-Air-Concert at Gemeindebau

On the occasion of the centenary of Vienna’s Gemeindebau (municipal housing) the Wiener Symphoniker will give a guest performance at the municipal housing complex at Rennbahnweg 27 in the district of Donaustadt on 19th May at 16.00 hrs.

There, under the direction of the young Austrian conductor Patrick Hahn, the programme of the open air concert with free admission will include a musical evergreen that has enchanted whole generations of children and adults alike: Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonic fairy tale Peter and the Wolf.  Star moderator Marko Simsa will guide through the concert. 

Vienna celebrates its unique Gemeindebau-project 

The concert will be a highlight of the festivities with which Vienna celebrates its unique Gemeindebau-project, considered one of the world’s most successful of its kind. The construction work for the Metzleinstaler Hof housing complex, the first typical municipal housing complex in Vienna, was started in the spring of 1919. Nowadays, almost half a million Viennese live in these municipal housing complexes.
