Magical

Christmas

In a spectacular setting

As every year, the traditional Advent concert of the Wiener Symphoniker delighted audiences once again. Under the motto ‘Bohemian Christmas’, works by Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák, as well as music from Three Wishes for Cinderella, were performed at St. Stephen’s Cathedral under the baton of chief conductor Petr Popelka. ORF III will broadcast the Advent concert in prime time on the fourth Sunday of Advent.

On 29 January 2026, the time has finally come once again: as part of their Cinema:Sound series, the Wiener Symphoniker will bring a film music legend to Vienna for the fourth time. For the first time, the Golden Hall of the Musikverein will become the stage for the music of Scottish composer Patrick Doyle - an immersive sonic experience that leads orchestra and audience alike through a rich variety of soundscapes.

Joe Hisaishi, a living legend of film music, conducted the Wiener Symphoniker in the sold-out Golden Hall of the Musikverein. In addition to his second symphony, the programme included some of his most famous film scores, including the symphonic suite from "Princess Mononoke".
