Chamber music at the Wien Museum 25-26
13. May 2025

Under the title "Klassisch Wien" the chamber music series of the Wiener Symphoniker celebrates its grand finale today at the Wien Museum. Following an exclusive guided museum tour, concertmaster Dalibor Karvay, principal cellist Michael Vogt, principal horn player Peter Dorfmayr, and pianist Stefan Stroissnig will perform works by Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Johannes Brahms. In October, the new season kicks off with the theme "30 Years of Augustin" and a performance by the ensemble Dolby’s Around.
Exciting new themes await in the upcoming 2025–26 season, featuring six chamber concerts. Each performance will be preceded by an exclusive introduction from the curatorial team, offering insights into the current exhibitions at the Wien Museum. The concerts are thematically linked to the exhibitions: To mark the anniversary of the street paper Augustin, the program explores themes of poverty and survival. Just in time for Backhendlzeit, the Symphonisches Schrammelquintett takes a trip to Nußdorf to celebrate life with the Ochsenmenuett. In a homage to the Danube Island, the Acht Cellisten der Wiener Symphoniker will perform Austropop arrangements and feel-good music by Jacques Offenbach. Inspired by Otto Neurath’s pictograms and his mission to make knowledge accessible to all, flutist Stefan Tomaschitz presents music for everyone with works by Carl Frühling and Erwin Schulhoff. The HABE-Quartett, meanwhile, seeks musical colors to complement the exhibition on Egon Schiele. The finale shifts the spotlight to South American communities, where the Thatiana Gomes Trio and The Hip Strings celebrate pure joy for life.
The concert series combines exhibitions and music into a holistic experience - in the unique atmosphere of the Wien Museum, where past and present enter into dialogue.
Subscriptions are now available, single tickets for the chamber music evenings go on sale in early August.
