It resounds from Italy all the way to Vienna
What could be more fitting to open a spring festival on Italian soil than Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony in A major, with its blossoming tone colors and southern cantilenas? Thus, in the opening concert of the festival Primavera da Vienna in Trieste, the Wiener Symphoniker and their chief conductor Petr Popelka will embark on the dazzling musical journey of the German Classicist through the land of the Apennines - about which Mendelssohn once wrote: “There is music in it, it resounds and rings from all sides.” From Vienna, the Wiener Symphoniker will also bring another popular A major symphony: Beethoven’s emphatic Seventh Symphony. Between the two symphonies, French violinist Renaud Capuçon, a soloist with a long-standing association with the orchestra, will draw the cantabile arches of Max Bruch’s melodious Violin Concerto No. 1 on his precious Panette instrument by Guarneri del Gesù.
