Peter Dorfmayr, born in 1989, began his musical education as a hornist at the music school in St. Peter / Au, attended the Musikgymnasium Linz and studied at the Bruckner Conservatory with Johannes Hinterholzer and later, when he discovered his love for the Vienna Horn, at the university for music and performing arts Vienna with Thomas Jöbstl.
 
A series of orchestral engagements led Peter Dorfmayr to the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, to the stage orchestra of the Wiener Staatsoper, to the Wiener Volksoper and finally as a principal horn to the Wiener Symphoniker. He worked with well-known personalities such as Philippe Jordan, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Àdàm Fischer, Georges Prêtre and Manfred Honeck. He is also a welcome guest of renowned ensembles and orchestras such as the Wiener Philharmoniker, the orchestra Les Musiciens du Louvre, the Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich, the Brucknerorchester Linz, the chamber orchestra Il Giardino Armonico, or the Concentus Musicus.
 
Chamber music is a major focus in his artistic work. He is a member of the woodwind quintet Ketos, the Vienna Horns, the Vienna Brass Connection, the Wiener Horn Ensemble and he performs regularly with the Alban Berg Ensemble Wien.
 
Peter Dorfmayr is very interested in passing on his knowledge and passion for the Vienna Horn. He teaches at master classes, workshops and is professor for Vienna Horn at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität Vienna.
