The Wiener Symphoniker's Advent concert has long been a favourite pre-Christmas highlight: music and contemplation in Vienna's landmark.

Once again this year, the programme in the atmospheric St. Stephen's Cathedral will take you through the different Christmas cultures of various countries and continents. In addition to the French L'Arlésienne Suite by Georges Bizet, the programme includes parts from Mozart's Trinity Mass, popular melodies from Engelbert Humperdinck's fairytale opera Hansel and Gretel, a cantata from Felix Mendelsohn Bartholdy's ‘Lobgesang’, a song by Keith Chapman and the Christmas classic Somewhere in my Memory from the soundtrack Home Alone by John Williams. The crowning finale - as every year - is the Christmas carol O du fröhliche.

The Wiener Symphoniker will be conducted by French conductor Stéphane Denève at this concert, which will be broadcast to living rooms across the country by ORF III. The soloists are the Italian soprano Rosa Feola and the American mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey. The Wiener Symphoniker's Advent concert offers contemplation and reflection in the pre-Christmas season in Vienna.
