SEASON OPENING 22-23

02. September 2022

2 Frauen und 1 Mann mit Instrumenten, in der Mitte des Bildes ein grüner Stuhl

In the new season, the Wiener Symphoniker will once again enter into a dialogue with the citizens of the city. The 114 concerts in Vienna will take place at 13 different venues. Whether Konzerthaus, Musikverein, Kunsthistorisches Museum, St. Stephen's Cathedral, Beisln or Kaiserwiese: The green Viennese chair by the Thonet brothers from 1904 symbolically invites the Viennese to take a seat wherever the music of the orchestra is played. Throughout the season, in addition to artists and partners, we also invite our esteemed audience to sit on it for a portrait photo and to engage in conversation with us.

For example, at Johannes Brahms' "German Requiem", with which the Wiener Symphoniker open the season in the Konzerthaus. Christoph Eschenbach will conduct, with Christiane Karg and Matthias Goerne as soloists. The second focus composer of this season is Franz Schmidt. In 1937 he composed "Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln", one of the most important oratorios of the late Romantic period, which was premiered by the Wiener Symphoniker. Now it will be directed by Ingo Metzmacher, together with the Singverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde and the soloists Christian Elsner, Stephen Milling, Siobhan Stagg, Dorottya Láng, Maximilian Schmitt and Jan Martiník.
