Wolkenturm in Grafenegg

Three concerts with the Wiener Symphoniker in Grafenegg

We are looking forward to playing for you for the first time at the Grafenegg Festival this summer! In a three-day orchestra residence in the uniquely atmospheric setting of the Wolkenturm, the Wiener Symphoniker will be presenting three different concert programs on three consecutive days on the last weekend in August. The peculiarities of the festival location Grafenegg with its open-air stage and its 32-hectare festival area including a spacious entrance area enable a large number of visitors to once again enjoy a live concert - while keeping in mind all necessary safety regulations, of course.

On August 28, the Wiener Symphoniker will play alongside two long-standing and close artistic companions: Manfred Honeck on the conductor's desk and Rudolf Buchbinder on the piano will interpret George Gershwin's comparatively rarely played Piano Concerto in F, combined with Antonín Dvořák's life-affirming Eighth Symphony.

The following day, outgoing Music Director Philippe Jordan conducts a concert dedicated to Richard Strauss. In addition to the two early symphonic poems "Don Juan" and "Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks", the program includes one of the most popular works by the great late romanticist, which the Wiener Symphoniker had introduced to the Austrian public 75 years ago: the popular "Rosenkavalier Suite".

Finally, on August 30, Speranza Scappucci, who has made a name for herself as one of the most accomplished connoisseurs of bel canto literature, steps upon the conductor’s podium. Under her direction, and together with such refined soloists as Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov, the Wiener Symphoniker invite you on a journey into the passionate world of opera.
