GRÄTZL CONCERTS 2019

HERNALS · LIESING · NEUBAU

15. January 2019

Tour through the districts of Vienna

In 2019, the Wiener Symphoniker will again go on tour through the districts of Vienna. To present their popular “Grätzl” or neighbourhood concerts, the Wiener Symphoniker will leave its traditional venues at the Wiener Konzerthaus and Musikverein and play for their audiences at new and partly unusual concert venues.

After the great success which validated this type of format last year, the first dates for calendar year 2019 can now be announced. On 16th May 2019, the Orchestra will give a guest performance at event building Reaktor in district Hernals, and on 17th May at cultural centre F23 in Liesing.

Peter and the Wolf for young audiences, families with children from age six

With its concerts at the Reaktor and F23, Vienna’s Orchestra will primarily address young audiences, families with children from age six, and school classes: The programme will include Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonic fairy tale Peter and the Wolf. There, popular host Marko Simsa will guide through the concert with plenty of humour, introduce the musical motifs relating to the characters in the story, and thus provide insights, in an entertaining manner, into in the possibilities of an orchestra and the special features of the individual solo instruments. The concerts will be directed by the conductor Patrick Hahn who at the same time will celebrate his debut with the Wiener Symphoniker.

Open-air in the MuseumsQuartier

Since 2017, with its open-air summer concerts, the Wiener Symphoniker has turned the main courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier into Vienna’s finest open-air concert hall. Under the baton of Speranza Scappucci, who will conduct the Orchestra for the first time, a temperamental and sunny programme inspired by musical Italy will be presented, with works by, inter alia, Rossini, Verdi and J. Strauss.

As Orchestra of the city of Vienna

the Wiener Symphoniker is committed to enriching the lives of all Viennese with its music. With more than 160 performances and concerts a year, it has always formed the backbone of musical life in the Austrian capital. Furthermore, thanks to innovative mediation projects, open air concerts, broadcasts, and the Grätzl concerts which were initiated in 2018, its makes extraordinary musical experiences available to all people.
