CHRISTENING OF THE WIENER SYMPHONIKER ANNIVERSARY WINE

14. November 2023

Jan Nast und Fritz Wieninger stoßen vor einem Weinfass an

In the 2024-25 season, the Wiener Symphoniker will celebrate their 125th anniversary. For this anniversary, winemaker Fritz Wieninger has created a cuvée from his best grapes, which will now mature in a wine barrel for a year. It was blessed by St. Stephen's Cathedral priest Toni Faber on Saturday.

On 11 November 2023, Jan Nast, artistic director of the Wiener Symphoniker, and winemaker Fritz Wieninger invited guests to the christening of the Wiener Symphoniker anniversary wine. The Viennese winemaker has been creating the Wiener Symphoniker's seasonal wines for three years now, and to mark the upcoming 125th anniversary of the traditional orchestra, he took on a special anniversary cuvée. The red wine will now mature for a year in a wine barrel. It was traditionally blessed by cathedral priest Toni Faber at the wine christening at the Wieninger winery.

The motto of the afternoon was not only to taste the wine, but also to hear it. The blessing and tasting was accompanied by the musical interpretation of the Honeck Quartet Vienna. Each wine was accompanied by a piece of music corresponding to its character: the polka "Vergnügungszug" by Johann Strauss Sohn for the Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC Ried Ulm 2016, Josef Strauss' waltz "Mein Lebenslauf ist Lieb und Lust" for the Pinot Noir Grand Select 2018. The wine christening set the mood for the upcoming anniversary season and the many festive and musical highlights it brings with it.
