Petr Popelka, Chief Conductor of the Wiener Symphoniker since 2024, will be making his debut at the Arnold Schönberg Center with this concert. The focal point will be the epochal melodrama cycle “Pierrot lunaire.” The maestro will perform the piano part and will be joined by members of the Wiener Symphoniker, while the acclaimed mezzosoprano Christina Bock will perform the vocal part. In addition to a piece by Zoltán Kodály, the concert will also include Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s “Songs of the Clown” on texts by William Shakespeare, which the composer wrote during his American exile for a production by the director Max Reinhardt.
