In the series ‘Cinema:Sound’, the Wiener Symphoniker are taking up their long tradition of film music and bringing a film music legend to Vienna every year to guide the orchestra through their soundscapes. On 20 May 2025, the celebrated Hollywood composer, conductor and pianist James Newton Howard will be conducting the Wiener Symphoniker for the first time.

James Newton Howard has created the soundtracks to blockbusters such as the ‘Hunger Games’ series, the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series, ‘Maleficent’, ‘King Kong’ and ‘Pretty Woman’. His multiple collaborations with M. Night Shyamalan on films such as ‘The Sixth Sense’, ‘Signs’ and ‘The Village’ are particularly noteworthy. In total, Howard has scored more than 120 films and has received several awards for his work.

James Newton Howard will present a selection of his outstanding film compositions at this special concert. A musical highlight that will delight film fans and music lovers alike.
