Join Barbara Rett on an exciting voyage of discovery through the world of classical music. The popular television arts and culture moderator presents the Wiener Symphoniker's series of seven Sunday matinée concerts in the Great Hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus. In addition to new Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada and members of the orchestra, Barbara Rett's illustrious international musical guests include multi-award-winning violinist Janine Jansen, who performs Max Bruch's First Violin Concerto, a work adored for its expressive melodic and tonal beauty. Two outstanding conductors of our time, Susanna Mälkki and the young American Karina Canellakis, also step onto the podium. Mälkki is your guide for a musical visit to the museum with Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition', and Karina Canellakis, who began her relationship with the Symphoniker in 2018, conducts the great symphonic movements from Richard Wagner's 'Tristan und Isolde'. Two further highlights in the series bring us into the realm of orchestral-choral music, with Handel's 'Messiah' conjuring up the feeling of Christmas on the third Sunday of Advent, and, in the new year, Dvořák's Requiem, a work that is as equally moving as it is consoling.
