The inaugural season of our Matinee series with Barbara Rett was a resounding success. The popular television journalist and cultural expert, hosted the series on Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons. Her brief introductions and unique charm provided exciting, informative insight into what happens behind the scenes at concerts. There will be six concerts in the series again next season. Barbara Rett will welcome guests, including several of today's leading violonists.

Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell will play Sibelius’s soulful Violin Concerto under the direction of Principal Guest Conductor Lahav Shani. The Sibelius Violin Concerto is the most frequently performed violin concerto of the 20th century. Another masterpiece from the violin literature, Mendelssohn’s noble Violin Concerto in E minor, will be performed by this year’s Artist in Residence, Julia Fischer. And worldstar David Garret wil present Tchaikovsky's only Violin Concerto. Performing with the Wiener Symphoniker is also the young Austrian violinist, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, who has already won many prizes and is one of the most promising violinists of our days. So it is fitting that he will perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, arguably the most challenging work in the violin concerto repertoire and the touchstone for artistic maturity.
