For three years Barbara Rett has hosted the Wiener Symphoniker’s matinee concerts with the greatest success so far. In the previous season, the Sunday concerts again counted among the most coveted – and the scarcest – tickets on Vienna’s musical scene. With her introductory words, the popular television culture journalist presents the programme and performers, enhancing the musical experience. The 2019–20 series comprises seven concerts. Along with Chief Conductor Philippe Jordan and members of the orchestra, Barbara Rett again welcomes illustrious greats of the international music scene as guests, including Kent Nagano, Gil Shaham and others. Friends of the piano literature can also look forward to hearing Igor Levit, Yefim Bronfman, Nicholas Angelich and Denis Kozhukhin, four of today’s most important virtuosi of the keyboard. In addition to piano concertos by Brahms, Liszt and Beethoven, the series includes Brahms’ mighty German Requiem and Constantinos Carydis athmospheric Christmas programme with works by W. A. Mozart and Ottorino Respighi.
