On Tour with Leonidas Kavakos

Spain & Greece

Leonidas Kavakos & Wiener Symphoniker at Wiener Konzerthaus

Writing for Die Presse in 2016, Walter Weidringer saw “a promise for the future” in a concert by Leonidas Kavakos with the Wiener Symphoniker. The auspicious verdict referred principally to Kavakos’s achievement in the then unfamiliar – for him – role of conductor. World famous as a violin virtuoso, Kavakos has also hit the musical headlines as a conductor in recent years, working with orchestras to which he is linked by long and intensive collaboration. There can be no doubt that the Wiener Symphoniker have belonged to this exclusive circle since his debut with them in 2003. Since then he has performed with them on 36 occasions: since 2011-12, practically every season has seen a concert block with the pairing. Following concerts in Germany the partnership Kavakos and Wiener Symphoniker is now hitting the road again with a tour to Spain and Kavakos' native Greece. At the concerts in Spain - Madrid, Zaragoza and Barcelona - the programme features in addition to Mendelossohn's Violin Concerto also Brahms' Symphony No. 1. In Athens audiences will be treated to renditions of  Mozart's "Paris" Symphony as well as Beethoven's 7th Symphony instead of Brahms. For all concerts Kavakos will once again take on the double role of conductor and soloist. The future is now!
