There, the Wiener Symphoniker performs major works of the classical repertoire, whilst Marko Simsa moderates with exciting facts and entertaining anecdotes. This is music entertainment and enjoyment for all between the age of 11 and 99!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream · Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy

This year, the Orchestra will present Felix Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream under the direction of Kirill Karabits, musical director of the German National Theatre and the Staatskapelle Weimar and also principal conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Mainly known for its Wedding March, Mendelssohn’s composition is based on William Shakespeare’s eponymous (romantic) comedy. On a summer night in a forest outside Athens, several plots are woven into a dense network of dreams.

Concert
Im Klang · 28 March · Wiener Konzerthaus

Developed in partnership with the Wiener Konzerthaus, the concert format “Im Klang” enables audiences to enjoy an exceptionally intensive experience in the middle of the musical action.

The players of the Wiener Symphoniker sit scattered throughout the parterre of the Great Hall; some of the audience are seated among and between them, finding themselves, in the meaning of the event title, “in the sound” (im Klang). The audience thus gets the chance to experience at close quarters the orchestral players at work and to enjoy monuments of the classical repertoire from a new and different perspective. Special cardboard stools have been produced especially for this unique performance situation; guests can take them home with them afterwards.
