The Wiener Symphoniker’s Music Director Philippe Jordan was awarded a Trophée Radio Classique as „Best Conductor of the Year“ for the recordings of the Orchestra’s Beethoven-Cycle at the award’s inaugural prize ceremony in Paris on 3rd of December. This makes the Wiener Symphoniker’s Beethoven Cycle one of the year’s best 10 best releases in the eyes of France’s most popular radio station for classical music. In addition to Philippe Jordan and the Wiener Symphoniker Semyon Bychkov with the Czech Philharmonic and Andris Nelsons with Vienna Philharmonic had been shortlisted for the award.
The Trophee Radio Classique will be awarded annually by a jury made up of leading representatives of France’s musical life. 2019 the jury included among others the General Director of Paris’ Philharmonic, Laurent Bayle, and the Director of Lyon’s opera Serge Dorny.
In total 10 Trophées Radio Classique were awarded in categories including among others Best Soloist or Newcomer of the Year. With Isabelle Faust and Igor Levit there were musicians among the price winners who will work with Wiener Symphoniker in the coming months.
