Info
The 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe on 8 May 2015 and the free concert being given on the same day on Vienna’s Heldenplatz by the Wiener Symphoniker – the “Festival of Joy” – is marked with the reissue on the orchestra’s own label of a historical recording from 1958: Symphony No.9 “From the New World” by Antonín Dvorák and Smetana’s “The Moldau” under the Czech conductor Karel Ancerl. A moving document of a man who, in 1942, was deported to Theresienstadt by the National Socialists and was the only member of his family to survive the regime of terror.
