Info

From a letter of Leopold Mozart to his daughter, we know that the Piano Concerts K. 482 & 488 must have been written under enormous deadline pressure. E flat is, historically seen not only the key of baroque shadow-scenes but Mozart provides it in this concert with the idiom of a spiritualized, emotional love. The ease, with which Mozart treats the formal structure in the concert in A, K 488 can hardly be found anywhere else in this works. The amalgamation of symphony and concert Mozart had already executed at the time has surpassed any scheme and has produced a work of unique freedom in the formal structure. The cadenza, an elegantly and delicately composed reminiscence of the entire movement, which was exceptionally entered into the autograph score, totally corresponds to this.
