Info
The conductor Marcello Viotti had conducted the Wiener Symphoniker almost a hundred times before his painfully early death in 2005. His highly gifted son Lorenzo will now assume his legacy. He has been highly acclaimed as the winner of the Young Conductors Award of the Salzburger Festspiele in 2015, the 11th International Conductors’ Competition with the Cadaqués Orchestra, and the winner of the First Prize of the Conducting Competition with the MDR Sinfonieorchester. In 2016, he celebrated a brilliant debut with the Wiener Symphoniker Orchestra as an understudy for Myung-whun Chung, due to illness. In the current season, he will conduct the Orchestra five times in total, with a very ambitious programme selection. In the two concerts at the Wiener Konzerthaus, along with Schumann’s piano concerto (with another high-flyer of the classical music scene as the soloist, namely Yuja Wang), the performance of Shostakovich’s monumental Tenth Symphony will be a work that stretches the interpreters to their very limits.
