Info
The concert of the Wiener Symphoniker under the multi-award-winning young conductor Lorenzo Viotti will start with Prelude and Love Death from Richard Wagner’s opera Tristan and Isolde. Even before the premiere of the opera in 1865, this combination of prelude and final movement had established itself as an abridged concertante version. As a student, Hans Pfitzner came into contact with Wagner’s environment which was to have a significant impact on his creative work. Numerous songs, inter alia, go back to these student years. The German exceptional baritone Matthias Goerne has committed himself to digging these largely unknown song treasures out again. In the second part of the programme, Claude Debussy and Alexander Scriabin will be like two “antipoles” of Wagner. Debussy’s symphonic poem Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and Scriabin’s Le Poème de l’extase each rank among the best-known and most frequently performed works of the two composers.
