Info
As many as four world-class virtuosi will make their dreams of deep musical interaction with the Wiener Symphoniker come true this season. Both as interpreters and conductors, they will present exquisite solo concertos and assume the direction of great orchestral works: Of course, besides the old master Rudolf Buchbinder, the artist in residence Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider and Leonidas Kavakos, this will not do without the shooting start Lahav Shani, principal guest conductor of the Wiener Symphoniker and designated successor of Zubin Mehta at the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He is looking forward to that dual role which both the audience and numerous musicians consider a major challenge. “There are a few things that are actually much easier than you thought when playing and conducting at the same time”, Shani played down the issue in an interview with the German culture-oriented radio station Deutschlandfunk Kultur. “Because there are things that are totally natural to an orchestra if the musicians are precise and sensitive. And this is exactly the case with the Wiener Symphoniker.”
