When you’re good enough, you’re old enough: a perfect motto for the rapid rise to global prominence of the Israeli conductor Lahav Shani, who is officially taking up his role as Principal Guest Conductor of the Wiener Symphoniker with these concerts. Shani’s relationship with the Symphoniker began in summer 2015, when at short notice he took over some concerts with star violinist David Garrett. Shani’s extraordinary maturity and exceptionally instinctive musicality made such an impression that new projects followed soon after. His appointment as Principal Guest Conductor was simply the logical consequence - as his acclaimed concert with Sabine Meyer last season demonstrated - the right one...
