Info
She conducted her first opera at the age of 19, and, at 27, she became the youngest General Music Director throughout Europe in Erfurt. Last season, she took on this position in Nuremberg. Now, she will stand on the podium of the Wiener Symphoniker for the first time: The German conductor Joana Mallwitz is undoubtedly one of the most promising maestras who are currently about to conquer international musical life with verve, talent and humour. For instance, “a baton weighs only 20 grams”, Mallwitz once countered when asked whether conducting the marathon of a Wagner operas was not too strenuous for a woman. Musically, she has given the answer several times already: She has conducted Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman at the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen, The Rhine Gold and Twilight of the Gods at the Latvian National Opera in Riga, and The Mastersingers of Nuremberg in Erfurt. Now, at her debut with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Wagner will again be included in the programme: After conducting the Siegfried Idyll in the first part of the programme, she will present Act One of The Valkyrie, with the collaboration of Jennifer Holloway, Stephen Gould and Hans-Peter König.
