Jordan, Guy / Bartók, Beethoven

Horizontal Tabs

Info
Philippe Jordan and his orchestra have already built a season around the combination of Bartók and Beethoven in 2015-16, when they devoted a seasonal focus to the two great musical innovators. They played Beethoven's piano concertos – placed in a dialogue with Bartók’s orchestral works. In this year's concert, this approach is virtually turned on its head – Beethoven's orchestral avowal of the beauty of nature and the joys of rural life in the "Pastoral" is now presaged by Bartók's moving Third Piano Concerto, in which the gravely ill composer showed a new side of his personality shortly before his death: melodic, tender, almost religious. Please note: This concert is presented as part of a cooperation between the Wiener Symphoniker and the Wiener Konzerthaus Society.
