Wiener Konzerthaus, Great Hall

Jordan, Bronfman / Tchaikovsky

Horizontal Tabs

The traditional festive Christmas concert by the Wiener Symphoniker will this year be under the baton of chief conductor Philippe Jordan. As part of their seasonal Tchaikovsky focus, the Wiener Symphoniker will perform Tchaikovsky's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 in G major op. 44 in partnership with Yefim Bronfman, for whom this will be a long-desired Symphoniker debut. The piece may be less frequently performed in concert halls than its almost overwhelmingly popular counterpart the Piano Concerto No. 1, but is a captivating experience thanks to the love of detail in the development of the solo voice and the wealth of colours in the orchestral accompaniment. The second part of the evening will open with the battle between the mice and the gingerbread soldiers: the second act from probably the most famous ballet of them all, "The Nutcracker". Please note: This concert is presented as part of a cooperation between the Wiener Symphoniker and the Wiener Konzerthaus Society.
