Honeck / Schmidt "Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln"

Horizontal Tabs

Info
An almost mystical aura surrounds Franz Schmidt’s oratorio "The Book with Seven Seals", written to mark the 125th anniversary of the Musikverin and premiered there by the Wiener Symphoniker on 14 June 1938. With its vast line-up of choir, orchestra and soloists, at each performance this setting of the Revelation of John displays its almost legendary, breath-taking effect anew. An unusual musical language with subtle harmonisations and very challenging orchestral and vocal parts distinguish this final masterpiece of late Romanticism, which Manfred Honeck performs with a renowned ensemble of singers on two evenings.
