Info
At a stroke Martin Grubinger changed the music world. While percussionists once crept shamefacedly onto the back of the stage, he puts his drums at the centre of the action. But in his “Percussive Planet” cycle over the past ten years, he’s been spotlighting not only the world of percussion but also that of contemporary music, becoming an internationally sought-after soloist for modern compositions in the process. John Corigliano’s Conjurer is one of these works, which are performed almost exclusively by this exceptional percussionist. There could be no more fitting conductor for such a concert than Gustavo Gimeno, who himself was a percussionist in the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam before taking up the baton.
