Info
The Wiener Symphoniker will usher in the new 2018/19 season at the Musikverein Wien with two of their particular specialities: premieres and contemporary music. Only days after its first performance ever in Brussels, the first Violin Concerto by the internationally successful French composer Guillaume Connesson will see its premiere in Vienna. The score will thus be found hot off the press on the desk of the conductor Stéphane Denève when the violin virtuoso Renaud Capuçon continues his successful cooperation with the Wiener Symphoniker. Moreover, Hector Berlioz’s concert overture Le carnaval romain will hint at the focus of the Wiener Symphoniker during that season. In Austria where Berlioz’s compositions were able to celebrate major successes not least because of the concert activity of the Wiener Symphoniker, all his major concert works can for the first time be experienced in just one season. From the Roman Carnival, even in the predominantly French programme of the evening, a jump to Ottorino Respighi’s Pini di Roma will not be very far. A masterpiece of programme music!
