Under the title Cinema:Sound, the Wiener Symphoniker are taking up their long tradition of film music and bringing a film music legend to Vienna every year to guide the orchestra through its soundscapes. On 20 May 2025, the celebrated Hollywood composer, conductor and pianist James Newton Howard will be on the podium at the Musikverein Wien!

James Newton Howard has created the soundtracks to blockbusters such as the Hunger Games series, the Fantastic Beasts series, Maleficent, King Kong and Pretty Woman. Of particular note is his repeated collaboration with M. Night Shyamalan on films such as The Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village. Howard has scored more than 120 films and has received several awards for his work.

James Newton Howard will present a selection of his outstanding film compositions at this special concert. A musical highlight that will delight film fans and music lovers alike. For the first time, the Cinema:Sound series is also offering a meet & greet with the composer followed by a rehearsal visit.
