Symphoniker auf der Bühne im Musikverein mit Alexandre Desplat

Cinema:Sound 2024 im Musikverein Wien mit Alexandre Desplat

Under the title Cinema:Sound, the Wiener Symphoniker, in cooperation with Tomek Productions, bring a film music composer and their works to Vienna each year. On May 20, 2025, Hollywood composer, conductor, and pianist James Newton Howard will lead the orchestra in the sold-out Golden Hall of the Musikverein. On the day before the concert, ticket sales will begin for the next event in the series: in January 2026, Scottish composer Patrick Doyle will take the podium with his outstanding film music.

James Newton Howard is one of the defining voices in contemporary film music. He has composed more than 120 soundtracks, including unforgettable scores for The Hunger Games, Fantastic Beasts, Maleficent, King Kong, and Pretty Woman. His close collaboration with director M. Night Shyamalan resulted in atmospherically rich compositions for films such as The Sixth Sense, Signs, and The Village. In Vienna, as part of the Cinema:Sound series, Howard will conduct a selection of his works. What makes the event truly special is the opportunity to experience film music in its purest sonic form - without accompanying visuals - in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein.

The Cinema:Sound series also promises an evening full of emotion, cinematic soundscapes, and musical storytelling in 2026. On January 19, 2026, film composer Patrick Doyle will guide the Wiener Symphoniker through his musical worlds. The acclaimed artist has scored films such as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Cinderella, Thor, Brave, Sense and Sensibility, and numerous Shakespeare adaptations. Most recently, in 2023, he garnered international attention with the composition of the official coronation march for King Charles III.

Advance ticket sales for the concert with Patrick Doyle begin on May 19, 2025 - a must for anyone who wants to experience great film music live.
