Info
When you’re good enough, you’re old enough: a perfect motto for the rapid rise to global prominence of the Israeli conductor and pianist Lahav Shani. Still under 30, Shani is already chief conductor-designate of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, to succeed Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and – as of the start of the current season – Principal Guest Conductor of the Wiener Symphoniker. He is dedicating his first concert in this function in the Musikverein to one of his favourite composers, whose direct musical language has fascinated him since childhood: Sergei Prokofiev. Appropriately for Valentine’s Day, Shani has curated excerpts from the Romeo and Juliet ballet suites. There will also be two works by Beethoven: the Coriolanus Overture and the Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor with Jasminka Stancul as soloist.
