The Wiener Symphoniker open ARTE’s europiano marathon on 21 June from the Vienna Konzerthaus
As part of its Fête de la Musique festival, ARTE presents the pan-European concert event europiano – The Most Beautiful Piano Concertos from Europe. For more than eight hours, piano works from across Europe will be broadcast live or in delayed live formats. Together with Chief Conductor Petr Popelka and pianist Yulianna Avdeeva, the Wiener Symphoniker will open this special concert event from the Vienna Konzerthaus with Brahms’ First Piano Concerto. The work, which caused a sensation at its premiere in Hanover in 1859, is today regarded as one of the cornerstones of the piano concerto repertoire.
Following the opening performance from Vienna, masterpieces from Paris, Strasbourg, Athens and Lisbon, among other cities, will be featured, performed by outstanding soloists and orchestras from across Europe. Alongside the Wiener Symphoniker and Yulianna Avdeeva, audiences will hear artists such as Martha Argerich, Rafał Blechacz, Mao Fujita and Lukas Sternath, as well as ensembles including the Orchestre de Paris, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
