Workshops

Trained Ears Hear More

Two or more members of the Wiener Symphoniker go out to a school where they work with a class to explore an orchestral piece. After the workshops students will hear the piece at a final rehearsal or at a school concert.

In order to get to know the piece better, the activities in the workshop revolve around central themes of the piece, or related topics. They focus on creative learning and active particpiation, inviting students to familiarise themselves with the music.

One way to do that is to improvise on musical elements of the original work or vary the original thematic material, another way is to play parts of it with Orff instruments or to create a dance to the music. Professional Wiener Symphoniker musicians will provide enthusiastic support for the students, playing along on their own instruments.

The preparatory workshops enable classes to come to the rehearsal already very well prepared, allowing them to enjoy the musical experience to the fullest!

Workshops in preparation for opera performances, done in cooperation between the Theater an der Wien and the Wiener Symphoniker, are offered to upper classes within the AHS (secondary academic school) system. Here, too, students attend a rehearsal after having participated in the workshop.
