Info
A small Beethoven marathon concludes the programme of the Beethoven cycle in the Wiener Konzerthaus. There will be no fewer than three symphonies: the Fourth, Fifth and Eighth. The Symphony No. 8, characterised by Beethoven’s sometimes rough humour, kicks off with sudden contrasts and surprising modulations. It is followed by the Symphony No. 4, which brims with joie de vivre while also developing an atmosphere of mystery. With the subsequent Symphony No. 5, Beethoven created a kind of symphonic icon, to this day indelibly associated in the German-speaking world with the epithets “Symphony of Fate” and “through night to the light”.
