Resignation of Andrés Orozco-Estrada

12.4.2022

Andrés Orozco-Estrada, who has served as Music Director of the Wiener Symphoniker since the beginning of the 20-21 season, announced his resignation today, effective immediately. This resignation comes after the orchestra's decision not to renew Orozco-Estrada's contract beyond the 24-25 season. Intendant Jan Nast: "We deeply regret Andrés Orozco-Estrada's decision and would have liked to continue our cooperation until the end of his official term. We had already developed and planned great projects together."

Orchestra board member Thomas Schindl explains, "During an orchestra meeting at the end of March, the musicians voted against an extension of the existing contract in accordance with the statutes and communicated this decision to the Intendant." Intendant Jan Nast and Vienna's City Councillor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler decided to accept the orchestra's decision.

"As an orchestra, we will now calmly consider how to deal with the planned concerts with Andrés-Orozco Estrada," says Jan Nast, who resolutely rejects the differences expressed by Andrés Orozco-Estrada in public. "Since we have worked constructively with many conductors in recent years, the upcoming concerts - especially 'Springtime in Vienna' - will take place as planned. I very much regret that Andrés Orozco-Estrada is leaving his orchestra on such short notice."
