After the acclaimed premiere of Rigoletto, this year's "Hausoper" house of the Bregenz Festival - Jules Massenet's Don Quichotte in a production by Mariame Clément - was also well received by both the public and the critics.
Here is a first small selection of press reviews:
BR Klassik (July 19, 2019)
"Massenet had to live by being labeled as a composer for women, to be considered a musical perfumer. All the more surprising that the Wiener Symphoniker, who had played Verdi's "Rigoletto" a day earlier on the floating stage, switched so convincingly to the much more subtle French subject. "
Badische Zeitung (20.July 2019)
"The British General Music Director from Darmstadt, together with the once again excellent Wiener Symphoniker, is working on the music ..."
ORF Online (July 19, 2019)
"Massenet's emotional opera was immaculately accompanied by the Wiener Symphoniker under the direction of Daniel Cohen for the entire duration, which also provided the strongest applause of the evening."
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (July 20, 2019)
"The Prague Philharmonic Choir and the Wiener Symphoniker are ideally placed in the luxurious score under the sovereign direction of the young conductor Daniel Cohen."
Don Quixote will be perfomed again on the 21st and 29th of July. Currently there are remaining tickets available for both events at www.bregenzerfestspiele.at.
