Opening with David Zinman

Works by Mahler · Wiener Konzerthaus

6.9.2018

As long as two years ago, the legendary American conductor and former music director of the Tonhalle Orchestra David Zinman was supposed to conduct the season’s opening concert of the Wiener Symphoniker at the Wiener Konzerthaus. Unfortunately, due to illness, he had to cancel at short notice at that time.

Two programmes with works by Gustav Mahler

But now, this will finally be caught up with. To this end, the Mahler expert has compiled two programmes which will be exclusively composed of works by the great Austrian composer: At Fridays@7 (28 SEP), there will be a gripping introduction with the first two movements from the Resurrection Symphony and a fine selection from Five Songs after Friedrich Rückert and Of the Boy’s Miracle Horn, before the entire Second Symphony can be heard on Saturday evening.

Participating soloists will be Dorothea Röschmann and Jennifer Johnston who can also be heard at the traditional closing concert on Friday along with the Symphonikerblas, a brass band composed of members of the Wiener Symphoniker.
