The Wiener Symphoniker’s international travels in the 2018–19 season begin in late autumn with a tour of Germany and Belgium under the leadership of their Music Director, Philippe Jordan.

Debut in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg

The journey starts with a very special debut by the orchestra: the Wiener Symphoniker will perform for the first time in Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, which was opened in January 2017. The programme features Johannes Brahms’ Violin Concerto with the solo part performed by this season’s Artist in Residence, Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider, and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”.

Concerts in Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf
Other concerts with the same repertoire take place in Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf.

Final concert in Brussels

To conclude the tour, the orchestra visits Brussels, where a contemporary Austrian work, Kurt Schwertsik’s “Here & Now”, is added to the programme.

The Swiss conductor Philippe Jordan has been the 15th Music Director of the Wiener Symphoniker since the 2014-15 season. Holding also the position of Musical Director of the Opéra national de Paris Philippe Jordan is one of today's most established and reverred maestros.

Viennese sound since 1900

The Wiener Symphoniker look back on an eventful history, rich of memorable moments and big names. Originally called the Wiener Concertverein, the Wiener Symphoniker was founded in 1900 in the spirit of Viennese modernism.
