Info

After having seen the year 1787 passing without any of this otherwise usual academies Mozart obviously tried – after the triumphant success of “Don Giovanni“ in Prague – to regain the favour of the Viennese audience. For this purpose he composed the Piano Concerto “Coronation” in D, K. 537 in February 1788. Even if the title might be conflicting, from the point of musical history – considering the virtuosity of the concerto – it is justified. Between writing the “Coronation” and composing his last Piano Concert K. 595 (1791) Mozart experiences three years full of harsh disappointments and permanent setbacks as he did not succeed in compensating the dwindling of his fame in Vienna by a steady success achieved at his journeys. This last piano concert is completely introverted.
