Info
2020 will see the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the patriarchs of classical music, an anniversary which the City of Vienna, where Beethoven spent a large part of his life and where he also composed and premiered his most important works, will celebrate with a big festive musical and cultural programme. There, the Wiener Symphoniker, being the municipal orchestra, will be a key actor and will dedicate itself especially to the most important symphonies and piano concertos in the first half of the year. At the beginning of the anniversary celebrations, there will be, however, a fixed star on New Year’s Eve: For more than 40 years, the Wiener Symphoniker and an illustrious ensemble of soloists has taken its audience at the Wiener Konzerthaus concert hall into the new year with great momentum, by presenting Beethoven’s utopian and optimistic Symphony No. 9. Unfortunately Michael Volle had to cancel his appearance for health reasons. We are grateful to Ain Anger who stepped in on short notice.
