Info
In the 2018-19 season, the Wiener Symphoniker will focus extensively on the great French composer Hector Berlioz. There, as an Austrian premiere, nearly all of Berlioz’s concert works will be performed in just one season to give a wide audience an understanding of the work of Berlioz as an outstanding representative of French romanticism. Along with works that by now are firmly established in the repertoire, such as La damnation de Faust or Harold en Italie, absolute rarities such as the song cycle Les nuits d’été will be presented also in the course of these concerts at the Wiener Konzerthaus. Berlioz had actually composed the six pieces of the cycle for six different singers, with each song designed for a different voice. It was only over time that cyclical performances sung by a single female singer became customary. The baritone Adrian Eröd will assume this challenging task.
