Info
The Wiener Symphoniker have enjoyed a deep relationship with the French violin virtuoso Renaud Capuçon ever since he and his brother, the cellist Gautier, were Artists in Residence in the 2014-15 season. Their achievements then included the premiere of a new violin concerto by Wolfgang Rihm. This time, he will perform the Symphonie Espagnole for violin and orchestra by Édouard Lalo: a highly original, atmospheric mixture of symphony, concerto and Iberian folk sounds. With Alain Altinoglu, “sensitive conjuror of musical colour” (Süddeutsche Zeitung) at the podium, the rest of the programme is sure to be filled with magic: the orchestral version of Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte, followed by Brahms’ Symphony No. 2.
