The Discovery of Music for All

The Discovery of Music for All

School Projects 2026–27

MUSIC IS PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE

The natural presence of classical music in our everyday lives is particularly tangible in the Wiener Symphoniker’s school projects: music as a daily companion and a trusted guide in life’s defining moments. The orchestra regularly engages closely with young people, exploring the secrets of sound together in narrated school concerts, workshops and opera performances. Open to all children and young people in the city, the orchestra is a first point of reference when it comes to "good sound". The Wiener Symphoniker elevate music to an entirely natural soundtrack in Vienna’s schools.

In their school concerts 2026-27, the orchestra demonstrates how hits such as Baba Yetu, Rock Me Amadeus and Zadok the Priest originated in the symphonic repertoire and have since become part of popular culture. They also journey through a wide range of musical narratives, from Tzigane to the romantic love epic Pelléas et Mélisande, and explore the meaning of music together with their audiences - for instance in Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations. This year, the opera The Little Prince invites school classes to listen with the heart and discover what is invisible to the eye. Louisa Muller will stage Pierangelo Valtinoni’s opera.

As always, all school concerts are accompanied by specially designed workshops, and the musicians of the Wiener Symphoniker work regularly with their partner school, Grundsteingasse Primary School.
