With their festive concerts, the  Wiener Symphoniker traditionally celebrate selected festive days in the calendar with top-class, extraordinary musical events. This season, once again, the absolute front rank of the international classical scene can be heard. For the Austrian National Holiday, under the skilful direction of their Principal Guest Conductor Lahav Shani and with 2019–20 Artist in Residence, Grammy Award winner Yefim Bronfman, the Wiener Symphoniker offer Schubert’s ‘Unfinished’ Symphony and Brahms' Second Piano Concerto along with music by Richard Wagner. At Advent, the orchestra and Constantinos Carydis tempt with a reflective and cosily Christmas programme, featuring works by W. A. Mozart and Ottorino Resphighi. A Song to Love rings out at Frühling in Wien, the Wiener Symphoniker’s popular televised Easter concert. Led in 2020 by audience favourite Manfred Honeck, the concert includes works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and others. Schubert also features in the series-closing Whitsun programme with his Symphony No. 4 in c-minor D 417 ‘Tragic’. This is a festive day in another respect: with this concert, conducting legend Philippe Herreweghe celebrates his long overdue debut with the orchestra.
