Mikko Franck

Feb 14, 2017 | Concert

Mikko Franck, who will conduct the concerts on 20 and 21 February, is a conductor who equally loves the opera and the concert repertoire. He conducted the Wiener Symphoniker before in production of Ian Bell’s “A Harlot’s Progress“ at the Theater an der Wien. Mikko Franck began studying the violin at the age of five and from 1992 studied at the Sibelius Academy and in New York, Israel and Sweden. He began studying orchestra conducting in 1995, first privately with Jorma Panula and then in 1996-1997 at the Sibelius Academy. In August 2006 he took up the post of General Music Director and since January 2008 he has been Artistic Director of the Finnish National Opera. Until summer 2007 he was Music Director and Chief Conductor of Belgium's Orchestre National. 2015 he became the General Music Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Featuring a northern-themed programme including Grieg’s Piano Concerto, Rimski-Korsakows Suite symphonique op.35, Scheherazade, as well as Apotheosis by the Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara, this will be the first time Franck leads the Symphoniker in concert.
