Reaching out to young people has been a major concern of the Wiener Symphoniker for many years. In October 2011, a music education position was created to gradually expand the orchestra's musical outreach activities, beginning with the 2011-2012 season.
Our initial emphasis is on joint projects with the Vienna schools. Classes will attend Wiener Symphoniker final rehearsals. But no class should ever come to a rehearsal without advance preparation. The more the students know about the repertoire, composers, and orchestra, the more fully they will be able to enjoy the rehearsal. In addition, we're offering partnerships with schools. A whole range of projects will take place during the three year partnership period. Possible examples include workshops, more extensive projects with final performances, as well as active class participation in Wiener Symphoniker school concerts. Our first partnership is set to begin in 2012, and we're working with "NMS Georg-Wilhelm-Pabst-Gasse" (students are between 10-14 years old).
Classes will have the chance to experience selected concerts at special rates that include additional educational opportunities. In addition to our highly successful Klassik Hits concerts, we plan to organise our own school and family concerts in future.
Workshops will inform students about pieces that they will subsequently experience at dress rehearsals ...
