Wiener Konzerthaus, Great Hall

For over thirty-five years, Beethoven’s Ninth has been a centrepiece of the Wiener Symphoniker’s New Year’s celebrations in the Konzerthaus. What work could call forth the humanistic spirit and unmistakable optimism of an incipient new age with greater conviction than Ludwig van Beethoven’s symphony which, above all, has become famous on account of the fourth movement? The orchestra is led by its designated Chief Conductor Philippe Jordan, who furthermore holds the position as Music Director of the Opéra National de Paris since the 2009-2010 season.
